JadeMonster

JadeMonster is here – it’s me!

JadeMonster came about after I saw the lovable sock creatures made in Vietnam by Nguyen.

Nguyen is a member of the Lifestart Foundation Workshop, an initiative to create self-sufficiency for disabled and disadvantaged women in Hoi An. The women create a most wonderful array of handicrafts, and take home 100% of the profits from the sales of their items. Lifestart Foundation covers the rent and utilities costs for the workshop, so the women benefit entirely from every purchase made.

While in Hoi An in late 2009, I had the pleasure of working directly with Nguyen on a completely original doll design which will become the feature of my new line of merchandise. It takes Nguyen one day to make each doll.

Nguyen presents as a delightful and energetic young woman, however she lives with a chronic heart condition which renders her immobile for 12 hours every day while she is attached to two large oxygen tanks.

Her sock creatures are the most popular item in the shop, and Nguyen is now looking to expand her solo enterprise to keep up with the demand! Creating these magical little creatures has given Nguyen a new lease on life and the independence she seeks as a young person.

Every JadeMonster is unique and hand crafted, each individually numbered and named. Please note that your doll may differ a little from the picture you see, but know that every doll is made with love and supports a wonderful young woman to see her dreams come true.
